Andrew has held the post of Biocontainment Microbiologist at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong since 2009 within the Biorisk Management Group. AAHL has laboratory and animal containment facilities including containment levels 3 and 4. Previous experience was at the UK Health Protection Agency’s Porton Down facility within 3 different departments, Emergency Response, Novel and Dangerous Pathogens and the Special Pathogens Reference Unit. Duties included, developing and delivering training in European Public Health outbreak coordination for the European Commission and the detection of and public health response to potential biological threat events in the UK for the UK Department of Health and the UK Home Office. He began his high containment career in the laboratory response to the 2001 UK Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak.
