Aparupa Sengupta, PhD, MS, RBP
Dr. Aparupa Sengupta has received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Biotechnology and Microbiology from Bangalore University, India. She worked for 1.5 years as a Research Assistant in an Indian Council of Medical Research Lab in the field of Immunology and Microbiology in India before coming to the US in 2008 for her graduate studies. She completed her second Master of Science in Plant Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology (specializing in Biofuel research) in 2009 and a doctorate in Biological Sciences (specializing in Environmental Microbiology and Plant Biochemistry) in 2014 , from Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Michigan. During her PhD. studies, in summer 2011, she also worked as a Scientist Intern in the Environmental Microbiology Lab of US Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Mississippi in the field of Biodiesel production. Since December 2013 she has worked in the field of Biosafety and Biosecurity; First, as a Lab safety Scientist and Responsible Conduct of Research Instructor at her alma mater (Michigan Tech) where she worked for 2 years before joining Rutgers University in January 2016 as a Biosafety Officer. As an active member of ABSA International, she had taught pre-conference course in ‘Gene editing Technologies and Risk assessment’ and have presented talks. She is an active member of ‘International Engagement Task Force’ at ABSA. Since December 2013 she has worked in the field of Biosafety and Biosecurity; First, as a Lab safety Scientist and responsible conduct of research coordinator at her alma mater (Michigan Tech) then at Rutgers University as a Biosafety Officer, before joining University of California-Merced as the Campus Biological Safety Officer in May 2018. Her subject expertise are: Microbiology, Molecular Genetics-Recombinant DNA Technology, and Plant Biotechnology.
