Esmeralda Meyer, MD

Associate Biosafety Officer

Esmeralda Meyer is the Associate Biosafety Officer and Assistant Director of EHSO. Prior to joining EHSO in 2014, she was the Scientific Coordinator for the Malaria Host-Pathogen Interaction Consortium at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center. Her professional background includes a medical degree from Universidad del Rosario – Colombia. Dr. Meyer is a member of the American Biological Safety Association since 2017. In her role of Assoc. BSO, she manages the registration of biological agents used at Emory University in teaching laboratories, research laboratories or in the high containment facilities. Her areas of interest include the handling of hazardous compounds, latest decontamination technologies, biosafety issues associated with handling experimental animals, occupational health, new molecular technologies, and legal aspects associated with biological safety, and environmental compliance.
