Michael Chute, RBP
Michael Chute has a Bachelors of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He trained as a molecular virologist in the laboratory of Dr. Leslie A Schiff working on the dsRNA binding protein sigma 3. In 1997 he moved to Maryland where he worked with the US Navy Biological Defense Research Directorate starting as a technician in the Department of Molecular Diagnostics, and then moving to become the BSL-3 laboratory manager. While in that position, Mr. Chute was the recipient of the 2009 Richard C. Knudsen Publication Award. From 2009-2016 Mr. Chute served as the Safety Director and Biological Safety Officer for the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. From 2016-Present Mr. Chute has served as the Deputy Director for Biosafety in the Department of Defense BSAT Biological Safety Office. In this capacity he also serves as the Senior Biosafety Advisor to the Executive Agent Responsible Official.
